Enrollment & Admissions
School Readiness Initiative
The Regional Center for Early Learning is proud to be part of Connecticut's School Readiness Initiative, which aims to provide high-quality early childhood education to young children across the state. This program is specifically available to families who live or work in Bridgeport. As a state initiative, the enrollment process is thorough and requires detailed information regarding household income and other relevant factors. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis, and after submitting your child's information via our Pre-Enrollment Waiting List form, your child will be added to our waiting list. Please ensure all required information is disclosed; failure to do so may result in your child being placed back on the waiting list .

The students are between the ages of 3 and 5 years. Children are required to turn 3 by September 1st.
What hours are the program available?
The program is open from 7:30 to 5:30 Monday through Friday. Families that are enrolled in a School Readiness grant supported space requires that each child attend school for at least 6 hours, 5 days each week. Consistent attendance is necessary to maintain your child in the program.
Is this a year-round program?
Yes, the Regional Center for Early Learning program is open for 48 weeks per year.
Is there a plan for each child?
Yes. Each classroom's team of teachers creates a weekly Learning Experience Plan (LEP). The LEP is divided into content areas such as Morning Meeting, Circle, Large Group, Manipulatives, Library, Writing, Art, Science, Sensory Table, Blocks, Dramatic Play, Music, and Outdoor/Large Motor Activity. The teachers plan activities in each of these areas based on the three Early Learning Development Standards (ELDS) they have chosen to study that week. Each classroom has a specific book for the week which they read to the class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, the teacher will read an informational or non-fiction book related to the book of the week. Your child is exposed to many books and authors throughout the year. The LEP is posted on the classroom bulletin board for you to view.
What is the curriculum that is used?
The Regional Center for Early Learning follows The Creative Curriculum for Preschool. The Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) are used as the basis for planning learning experiences. You can access the CT ELDS on the CT Office of Early Childhood website: https://www.ct.gov/oec/site/default.asp.

At this age, play is children’s work. Preschoolers learn best through hands-on experiences.
